Secure Shopping

Personal data protection when shopping online

Avoid providing personal data, which is not directly related to your order. Find out how the merchant protects your data – check whether there is a Privacy Policy or a similar document published on the website.

If you are shopping from a shared device, don’t save your passwords in the browser.

Fraud protection

Make sure that the merchant, with whom you enter into a relationship is clearly identified on the website you are shopping from, and that contact details are provided in case any questions or issues arise. Check whether the merchant is authorized to sell the respective goods.

Make sure to check if there is clear and transparent information about delivery and related costs, as well as return conditions, in case you would like to return your order. According to EU law you have the right to return online orders within a certain period of time.

Take extra caution if the sales offer seems unrealistic.

Secure payments

When making online payments don’t give your credit card’s PIN to anyone!

Before you confirm your order and make the payment, make sure the final amount in corrects and there are no unwanted items added to your shopping cart.

The URL of the website you are shopping from must start with “https://” – “s” stands for “secure”. Also, look for the padlock symbol in your browser frame – it also represents secure payment. Make sure it is located on the browser frame and not the webpage itself – if it is found on the webpage, this might be an attempt to mislead customers.

After you have completed your order, check your credit card statement to confirm that the correct amount has been withdrawn.

When you are done shopping, log out of your account on the website.

Use antivirus software and update it regularly.
